Cozy Marketing - the new marketing system & why you need it

This blog is going to be a goooood one because i’m already a cup of coffee in, feeling good from that caffeine and we’re talking  about what has become my favorite way to market my business. I call it cozy marketing and trust me, it might sound fluffy but it’s freaking powerful! It’s actually been pivotal in my business growth, showing up on social media consistently to attract my dream clients and grow my business online, while saving me as much time as possible, that I can then invest back into the clients I work with and my personal life.

WHAT IS COZY MARKETING?

Now before we get too far into this, let’s chat about what I know you’re already thinking… “what the hell is cozy marketing? That sounds like a lot of BS.”

So this isn’t some “fluffy” marketing term. This is the system of marketing I’ve adapted and modified over the past 10 years in business that allows me to focus on creating quality, impactful content instead of focusing on creating the highest quantities of content possible.  Cozy marketing is focusing on creating small amounts of quality content in shorter amounts of time that you then repurpose into larger quantities. It’s my work smarter, not harder system of marketing. Quality CREATING quantity.

To me, marketing has always been very rigid. It felt  like a team of people wearing suits, working in cubicles for hours and hours, creating as much content as they can, to go viral and constantly pump the social media system full of their brand messaging to create this cold, omnipresence online to establish their brand value. That felt super shitty to me, not gonna lie.

Creating content shouldn’t be a hustle and grind. It shouldn’t be your full time job. Living LIFE should be your job, with content creation as a way to support living your life. That old concept of marketing didn’t feel right to me. It wasn’t in alignment with my personality, who I wanted to be, how I wanted to live my life, or how I wanted to grow my business. My audience, my listeners, my paying customers are not just numbers on a spreadsheet or money in the bank. They are amazingly gifted women who each have their own skillset and purpose to help other people while supporting their own life… and I knew I wanted my marketing to reflect that. I could give less of a shit about virality and getting more followers to be popular. I wanted to connect with the RIGHT little tribe online who felt like family to me. AND I wanted to have fun doing it!

That’s when cozy marketing was born. If the old way of marketing is like a cold, corporate cubicle, cozy marketing is sitting on the couch on a rainy day, wearing a knit sweater and leggings, wrapped in a fuzzy blanket, drinking a warm chai latte, listening to the fire crackle,  smelling the scent of cinnamon, sitting in the soft glow of twinkle lights and candles, while your bff is sitting across from you sharing a heart-warming story.

It’s creating content for the sake of relationship building, connecting, trusting, calling in your tribe, nurturing your audience, helping them with your specific set of skills, without the pressure. It’s like a good conversation over a great cup of coffee. It’s chill not rushed. It’s flow not hustle. It gets your message across without having to repeat yourself. It’s whispering to your close circle of friends instead of screaming into the crowd. Quality over quantity. Serving over spamming. Love over ego. People over numbers. All while getting you the same results as that marketing team in cubicles working endlessly to pump out as much content as possible. And that’s the key.

THE OUTCOMES OF COZY MARKETING

Okay enough with the metaphors. You “get” what cozy marketing is but what ACTUALLY is it? It’s my strategy & method for marketing my business online 24/7, without having to BE there 24/7, with my main focus on SERVING my audience over selling. It allows me to be everywhere at once without actually having to be physically present. I can find my ideal audience on their own time without having to be tied to the internet 24/7.  I can help others and get paid for my skills & services while I sleep, instead of trading hours for dollars, allowing me to help MORE people than ever before AND it gives me so much time freedom that I can not only reinvest in my business or with clients, but also use to live my life. Because here’s the thing…

Before this, I was tied to my computer. I didn’t make money without being ON my computer, marketing myself, having conversations, showing up online EVERYWHERE. It was exhausting, and it led me to burn out more times than I cared to admit. I couldn’t fully show up for my paying clients because I was worn thin from trying to keep up with that old marketing model. I barely had time for my clients because creating content and marketing myself BECAME my full time job. I had to show up on all the platforms THAT DAY, THAT TIME, do the things, write the blogs, write the emails, write the social posts,.... I literally didn’t have time to take care of the customers I had or live my life outside of my work.

The cozy marketing method changed all of that. Giving me back more time to work with clients AND take care of myself without having to sacrifice my marketing entirely, all while growing my audience bigger than ever before and serving them better than I had ever imagined, helping them immensely without having to be in front of my computer. It was revolutionary. It was freeing. And it was life changing. And you can easily do it too! I’d recommend you grab a pen and paper or open up the notes app on your phone right now because we’re about to get in to the nitty gritty of how you can do this too! So let’s break down everything you need for your cozy marketing system.

THE COZY MARKETING SYSTEM PARTS

Okay so let’s dive into what my cozy marketing system is all about. There are 4 main parts to my cozy marketing system:

  1. My simple content cycle

  2. My trust-building freebie

  3. My nurturing series

  4. & my offer that serves like no other

The simple content cycle is where my audience begins their journey and honestly it’s most likely happening while I’m taking a nap or baking some cookies & dancing around the kitchen to my punk pop playlist from high school. My simple content cycle involves ALL of my content - my instagram posts, stories, IGTVs, my facebook posts, my facebook group, the podcast, my blog, my pinterest pins: allllll things they can access on their OWN time on almost any platform (minus like linked in because I don’t have the mental capacity to be on there- takes me back to my “corporate” days and ughhhh. Or youtube, because … well that’s in the works :) )

The secret to this step is that while I am putting out a TON of content every day on various different platforms, creating a sort of omnipresence … i’m not ACTUALLY creating 50 million pieces of content on the fly every day. I take one BIG MEATY piece of content, like a podcast episode. I turn that into a blog. I turn that same blog into a week’s worth of instagram posts and stories to go with that post, and IGTV trainings and fb group osts and trainings. THen I create pintersest pins that lead back to my IGTVs, my IG posts, my podcast, my blog… you get the picture. ALL of that “bulk” amount of content is really just a podcast episode like you’re listening to now, broken down into various little bits and pieces. So while it looks like I’ve got a marketing team working endlessly in their cubicles to put all of this out there, it’s really just me writing and recording podcast episodes in my cozy sweaters, sipping a coffee, surrounded by cinnamon candles (see why I called it cozy marketing - it’s a vibe and if you know, you know). And then just break down that podcast into all of my other content. EASYYYYY.

Okay so after my audience consumes my content, what next? They sign up (on their own time) to my trust-building freebie. This could be a variety of things: ebook, digital templates, a trello board, a pdf, a mini course - whatever I’m feeling at the time, but it’s a free digital download of some kind that will get them a quick win (that’s what establishes that trust). The “cozy marketing” element is the fact that they can access this freebie literally at any time they want, without any work being needed from me. They simply sign up, get their digital download immediately through my backend marketing system, and boom, they can start using it asap, all while I’m sitting on the couch wrapped in a fuzzy blanket, reading a good book. They are being served and helped by me without me having to physically send them an email with their download. So i can have my cozy moment guilt free, knowing I”ve already put the work in to serve them the best I can. And you might be wondering… how do they find my freebie? All the content I talked about in the previous step! I lead them to it on my podcast, on my blog, on social media, and even create pins directly to it. They are always being offered my freebie along side all of my free content so that when it’s right for THEM, they can make the decision to get my freebie. So they have the freebie - now what?

Now they are served even MORE through my nurturing email series. This is an automated sequence of emails that gets sent out to them slowly after they download my freebie, and the purpose of this is two fold - one I provide even MORE helpful and impactful content to keep serve serve serving them as best I can and two - I am simultaneously leading them to my main offer that will help them the most! So here’s an example: let’s say they download a freebie that is 30 instagram story prompts to help them show up everyday on instagram stories. That gets them a quick win of topics to share about on stories and a way to easily start showing up. Cool. Now, over the next few weeks, I’ll be leading them to realize, stories are just PART of the marketing system. But what about the rest? Stories might be fun and what you love to do, but they take up a lot of time, leaving little time for you to create the rest of your content for the feed or other platforms. AND  posting stories is fun and great, but adding a content strategy would increase your engagement and conversion rates, making your time on stories more Purposeful for growing your business. Then at the end of the few weeks, now that they have been lead through the thought process of needing to focus on more content than just stories, without spending too much time on it and using a content strategy, I would offer them access to what is the last step of the cozy marketing system…

My offer that serves like no other, which in this case would be my Crush your Content system: which is an online course where I would teach them how to plan, create, and schedule an entire month of high quality content for social media using a custom content strategy to attract, nurture & convert their audience into paying clients, and the system to do all of that in just 4 hours every month. So let’s back up for a second. They were able to find my content, relate to it, learn from it, know me, like me, & trust me, download my freebie that got them a quick win AND entered them into my automatic email sequence that made them realize what their problem REALLY was and how easily they could solve it with my offer that is jam-packed with EVERYTHING they need and more (and sign up right on the spot if they wanted to).... All without me having to do anything beyond creating a podcast episode & breaking that down into some other pieces of content . They were spoken to like they were my bff, served endlessly, helped through every step, all while I was helping other clients, baking cookies, or sleeping…. THAT is the power of cozy marketing.

Imagine being able to do ALL of that while you created a new product or service, hired or expanded your team, worked with more clients, or spent more time with your family. I don’t know about you, but that “hustle” culture is starting to look pretty unattractive right about now. Yes, of course hustle is always needed in a business, but I prefer to use my hustle to set up cozy marketing systems that will then run for me in the background effortlessly instead of using my hustle to market my business on the fly 24/7. I’m a lazy girl at heart and I love having time to just relax, lounge around, and enjoy life. That 24/7 “the hustle & grind is my life” culture, just ain’t for me. I’d rather be baking some bread or grabbing coffee with a friend than working at my desk 24/7 for popularity or virality. If the hustle culture is for you, no judgement, you’re always more than welcome here in my community, but if you’re like me and a chill girl at heart, just know, you’re my people and I feel you on the deepest level!
