Goal Setting for Creatives and Entrepreneurs : Why you should limit your yearly goals

When you think about setting goals for the year, what do you think of? Do you think of listing your biggest dreams that you want to achieve this year? Most people do! They jot down EVERYTHING they want to do this year, from job promotions to healthy lifestyle changes, learning new skills to reaching major milestones, the list goes on and on. What you end up with is a list of 30 goals for the year that looks absolutely SCARY, so you hide that paper under a notebook for the rest of the year. This is why you need to limit your goals for the year!

Yeah, I know, that's probably the complete opposite of what you thought goal setting was about. Limiting yourself? But...you want to accomplish SO MUCH this year; and you thought that putting limits on your dreams and goals was bad? Yes, limiting your dreams IS bad- I fully support having big dreams and trying to reach them! What I am saying though, is that you should put a limit on HOW MANY of these big dreams you try to achieve in a year.

Think about it. You have a list of 15 huge goals for this year. How much is involved with reaching each goal? When we just look at the list of goals, it looks like 10 tasks, when really each goal has a ton of tasks to accomplish in order to reach it. So your list of 15 goals you are trying to accomplish in one year might in reality take 5 years worth of work to reach.

Now THAT'S scary! You know what isn't scary? A list of 5 goals that you can actually accomplish this year. Learning how to limit your goals to a manageable amount is a huge motivator when it comes to achieving your goals and makes you feel much less overwhelmed when you think of your goals!

Want to learn how to limit yourself to only a manageable amount of goals for 2018 (and create a list of backup goals if you're an over achiever and complete all your 2018 goals early?
